Type your own text
A randomised word list is the right default for measuring raw speed, and the wrong tool entirely when you are drilling something specific: a monologue you have to perform, a glossary of chemistry terms, the boilerplate you retype every week, or a paragraph in a language the standard word pool does not cover. Paste it below and it becomes the test.
Once you load a passage, the address bar updates to contain it. That link is the whole point: hand it to a class, drop it in a stream description, or bookmark it for tomorrow, and whoever opens it gets your exact passage at your exact duration. Nothing is uploaded and no account is involved — the text travels inside the URL itself, which is also why there is a five thousand character ceiling on it.
A few mechanics worth knowing. Line breaks and tabs collapse into single spaces, because the test corrects mistakes within a word and needs plain word boundaries to do it. If you type past the end of a short passage it loops rather than stopping, so a one-line quote still fills a full run. And your best scores here are kept apart from your scores on the standard test, since a passage you chose yourself is not comparable to a random one.
Other typing tests
The standard typing test
The default word test at 15, 30, 60 or 120 seconds — the one most people are looking for.
1 minute typing test
The 60-second benchmark: long enough to be honest, short enough to run again straight away.
5 minute typing test
Five sustained minutes — endurance and consistency rather than a single burst.
Code typing test
Keywords, brackets, operators and camelCase identifiers instead of prose.
Accuracy drill
Strict mode: a wrong key is counted and the cursor refuses to move until you fix it.

Thumb-typing on a phone keyboard, scored and stored separately from your desktop runs.
